General Information

The Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department is now offering a Scholarship Program. This program has been designed to aid those persons in our community who are in need of financial assistance in order to participate in our recreation programs. The Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department feels it is essential to every child’s development to interact with other children who may not have otherwise had the opportunity to participate in our program. Approval of a participant’s application for scholarship allows for partial cost (up to 80%) of program participation to be paid through our scholarship fund.

To receive consideration for a scholarship award, it is important to adhere to the following steps. To apply for the recreation scholarship, complete the following requirements:

1. Applicant must be a resident of Daviess County , Kentucky .
2. Must be 18 years or younger/or disabled.
3. Obtain and complete an application from the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department.
4. MUST attach most recent Federal Income Tax Return or proof of household income (pay stub, Social Security statement or child support statement). If applicable, also include approved form for free/reduced lunches, approved form for food stamps, or public-housing verification.
5. Send application, program registration, and accompanying documentation to:

   If you are delivering your information, our offices are open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.– 5 p.m. at 1530 McJohnson Avenue .

6. Applications must be submitted to the Parks and Recreation office 10 days prior to the start date of the program. Failure to submit the application in time may result in the application being denied. Late applications must pay the full fee for the program and upon approval of a scholarship will then receive the scholarship amount in the form of a refund check.
7. Applicants will be notified by letter of the status of the scholarship. In order to participate in the program, approved applicants must pay in full the remaining portion of the registration fee before the first day of the program.
8. Scholarship participants must have regular attendance or risk the chance of losing the scholarship (up to the discretion of the Program Administrator).
