Swim Lesson

Pre-School Aquatics – Ages 3-4 at Cravens Pool

Laugh, splash, and enjoy a family adventure with Pre-School Aquatics. Children will learn basic water skills and become comfortable in the water as they develop a readiness to swim.

A parent may join his/her child in the water, but it is not required.

Fee: $51

Fee includes:

  • 30 minutes of instruction
  • 15 minutes of free swim
  • 2 FREE passes to the Edge Ice Center
  • FREE swimming on Saturdays.

During the last day of free swim the participants will get to have a Super Hero and Princess Party in the water.

 

Swim Lesson – Ages 5+ at Combest Pool

Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned swimmer, we have a class that will fit your needs. Classes range in skill levels and follow the guidelines and procedures set by the American Red Cross.

In case of rain, make-up lessons are held the following week.

Ages: 5+
Days: Monday-Friday
Fee: $51

Fee includes:

  • 45 minutes of instruction
  • 15 minutes of free swim (at 10 a.m. for morning classes and 5:45 p.m. for evening classes)
  • 2 FREE Edge Ice Center passes
  • FREE swimming on Saturdays at either pool location

LEVEL I    INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS

For the beginner who is less than comfortable in the water.

Swimmers learn basics of swimming:

  • Bobbing
  • Going under water
  • Supported front & back floating
  • Supported rolling over from front to back & back to front
  • Supported gliding
  • Supported flutter kick
  • Supported front crawl arms
  • Jumping in.

 

LEVEL II    FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS

Swimmers should already be able to float on front & back and put head under water.

Swimmers will work on:

  • Independent front & back floating
  • Independent rolling over from front to back & back to front
  • Independent front & back glides
  • Front crawl arms & kicks
  • Back crawl arms & kicks
  • Retrieving underwater objects
  • Jumping into water over their head.

LEVEL III      STROKE DEVELOPMENT

Swimmers should already be comfortable swimming front stroke & swimming on their back.

Swimmers will work on:

  • Gliding
  • Freestyle with side breathing
  • Backstroke
  • Breast stroke & dolphin kicks
  • Retrieving objects in deeper water
  • Treading water
  • Jumping into deep water & compact dives.

 

LEVEL IV       STROKE IMPOROVEMENT

Swimmers should already be able to: swim front & back crawl 25 yards.

Swimmers will work on:

  • Rotary breathing
  • Freestyle
  • Backstroke
  • Elementary backstroke
  • Scissors kick
  • Sidestroke
  • Whip kick
  • Breaststroke
  • Intro to turning at wall
  • Treading water with modified scissors
  • Diving in kneeling position.

 

LEVEL V        STROKE REFINEMENT

Swimmers should already be able to: swim freestyle, breaststroke & backstroke 25 yards, scissors kick, whip kick, treading water, & dive.

Swimmers will work on:

  • Alternate breathing
  • Stride jump
  • Refinement of:
    • Freestyle
    • Backstroke
    • Elementary backstroke
    • Sidestroke
    • Breaststroke
    • Dolphin kick & butterfly
    • Open turn on front & back
    • Feet-first surface dive
    • Treading water.

 

LEVEL VI       SWIMMING & SKILL PROFICIENCY

Swimmers should already be able to: swim front & back crawl 50 yds., elementary backstroke 25 yds., breaststroke 25 yds., butterfly 25 yds., sidestroke 10 yds., tread water for 3 minutes, & dive.

Swimmers will work on:

  • All six strokes
    • Front & back crawl flip turn
    • Breaststroke turn
    • Breaststroke speed turn & pullout
    • Butterfly turn
    • Sidestroke turn
    • Pike & tuck surface dive
  • Tread water for 5 minutes
  • Basic water rescue.
